At first I thought I would divide this into three parts, but then I thought it was unnecessary, so I'm putting all the acts from this year's SDCF into a single post.
"Comedy Corner"
Having seen these guys multiple times now, one of the things I've liked is that they're so different. Much like stand-up comedians, every comedy act has its own style, and they showed that in their act, as well as their great chemistry and innovativness. I had no complaints in terms of their style or execution.
The crowd reaction was good. U of A didn't really lose the crowd, but I admit that in their final game my interest started drifting in and out. They still managed to pull off an exceptional act.
Score: 8.5 out of 10.
"Barren Mind"
The highlight of this segment was the "I Object" rounds. I can see why they only play this game sporadically. If they did play it too often, it would lose its appeal.
Their chemistry was largely the same as Comedy Corner, but I could tell they were a little more energized, a fact reflected by the fan reaction I heard.
Score: 8.95 out of 10.
"Farce Side"
Of course, they used some of their more noteworthy sketches from the last few months, such as the "Gateway is Rapeway," "iPod," and "The Last M&M."
Score: 8.95 out of 10.
"The Chicago Act (Jet Eveleth and Tim Reardon)"
When this act was over, I was asking myself, "how the hell am I gonna critique this one?"
If you saw said segment, then you know exactly what I mean. How Jet Eveleth was able to stay in character so effectively and convincingly, just thinking about it boggles the mind. I've never seen someone so off-the-wall and so distinct before. I don't know if this is par for the course, but Tim's presence was somewhat limited, yet integral to the comedy itself.
I do feel that it went too long, but all the video interviews that were played kept the act from getting too stale too quickly.
Score: 9.5 out of 10.
