This is the part of the year that I love, yet hate. I get to see the best sketches of the past four months, but we have to go without Farce Side until August.
If anyone's wondering why I didn't review last week's show, it's because my weekend went bad. I did enjoy the April 17 show, but I got so distracted that I couldn't focus on it.
Anyways, the final sketches of the Spring went something like this...
“Tickle grandpa”
A little slapstick and character comedy and an interesting show by Ty Thursby. Not bad.
“Lot troll”
What was this supposed to be? The Lord of the Parking Lots?
I kinda enjoyed this, with Kyle being the eponymous character, but of course it didn’t stop there, with Ian being a wizard and all.
At first I thought it was a little absurd, but I just decided to sit back and enjoy it.
“The Cave Show with Marissa”
What do I call this one? Alternative or surreal comedy? As the name implies, the title character has literally been living in a cave for the last few years, which made for an excellent performance from Stacey.
“Oregon Trail”
Was there anyone watching the show that didn’t already know what Oregon Trail is?
I have to say that Farce Side managed to capture the essence of this game pretty well. Anyone who has tried it knows indeed that the hunting was basically the best part of it. Great sketch from beginning to end.
“Graduation”
I think that this was a bittersweet sketch, one that was well done, but also a reminder that an era is about to end. All of the “graduates” here - Nick, Kyle, Lauren, Stacey, and Alison - are about to leave, and it’s gonna suck big time when they do.
My biggest problem was with the Skype video chat during the "News" segment. They didn't anticipate the lag with Kyle's voice during the chat, and it threw off the pacing of the segment.
My final score is 9.0 out of 10.
