Before I get started, I know I forgot to review the March 5 show, but that's a consequence of life.
Anyways, I think that this show demonstrated that this new era in The Farce Side Comedy Hour has started to find its footing, or maybe it already has.
"Stephanie's imagination"
Let me get this out of the way. Danny took a lot of abuse here. You had to feel bad for him
The premise here is that Stephanie dozes off after a Farce Side meeting while attempting to come up with a sketch idea. When she does, she has a dream that, takes her into Crazy Town.
This one is a potential candidate for the “Best of” show. Will I vote for it? Possibly.
"Bad clothes"
This was a form of Prop Comedy in a sense. An old guy is made to take off his hat, his belt, and his shoes in a restaurant because everyone seems to just hate them, and then he has to leave because he has to wear all those things.
There was also some surreal comedy present, because from a general standpoint, this made no sense.
"A drunk GPS"
This would not be the first time this kind of humor was used. I'm referring to the "Killer OnStar" piece from last year, except this time a GPS in a car somehow gets drunk. More surreal comedy here. The female English accent was a nice touch.
"Fortunes"
Two people at a restaurant are given a plate full of fortune cookies. The fortunes - told in a Chinese accent - seem to be guiding the two together. It’s as if they’re adapting to the situation. The last one has a condom. Points for originality.
This one I loved because it had such an original concept, and the execution was spot on.
"Lean on Me/Rehab/Don't Stop Believing"
This kind of sketch, which involves a glee club/music class of a sort and a teacher getting upset, is something I've seen before, but the story and execution were different.
Every time I hear that Journey song, it always makes me think of the last Sopranos episode, which I still have mixed feelings about. I ain't mad at it though.
At first I thought the show was just decent. Maybe that was an understatement. Farce Side proved something here. They've got it where it counts.
My final score is 9.15 out of 10.
It's coming...
