The big show, the Sun Devil Comedy Festival, is drawing near, and the Farce Side Comedy Hour proves they’re ready for it by giving us a show with very distinctive content.
“Breast cancer walk”
Why do I get the feeling that this sketch borrowed from a certain Seinfeld ep? We have all these people wearing pink in preparation for a breast cancer walk, and one of them isn’t really wearing it. There was some observational comedy here, where something that happens every day gets made fun of.
I suspected that there would be something involving breast cancer when I saw multiple people wearing pink. This was a solid scene.
“Mannequin affair”
This was indeed distinctive. How Ian, Sam, and Alex were able to hold it together as much as they did, I will never know. I gotta give Stephanie some major props for coming up with something this unique. That and her performance.
“On the road again”
Two guys on a road trip? I’ve seen that. One guy constantly changing the radio stations while the other guy sleeps? Never seen that one.
Nick had something here, using the different radio stations to convey the humor. It’s not the first time that only sound has been used, but the different songs and radio ads were used effectively.
“Murder mystery”
There’s a dead body. The lights go out. The body count just keeps going up. The murderer is obvious.
Maybe not the most original sketch, but one of the better ones.
“Addicts anonymous”
How does Sam do it? If it was me, I’m not sure I could keep a straight face throughout the entire scene. What happened here is that there was a meeting between, well you can guess, then this angry keeps barging in ‘cause he was looking for the Anger Management room, and then you hear him go on a tear looking for the right place.
I would’ve thought Sam wrote this one, but it was actually Brian Rhoads. Nice job.
My final score is 9.25 out of 10.
The big show is coming…
