They were missing some of their cast, such as Kyle, Alex, Stacey, and Sam. One would think that Farce Side missing people would lead to a mediocre show, but no. Instead they delivered some smart comedy.
I’m just glad that Duncan Carey helped keep the crowd interested before the show started (it started late). Using those props for those puns, well done.
“Playing through” I’ve often found surreal comedy to be very engaging. We’ve got a guy watching golf, and suddenly it spills over into his house. It has everything you’d expect from such elements, but for me, this type of humor doesn’t get old.
“Trash Dinner” I’ve heard of people going green before, but this is ridiculous.
I guess you could call this one prop comedy given its use of trash.
“Photo radar tickets” This is why I’m gonna miss Nick when he leaves. He really had something here with being on trial for tickets. Each picture just kept getting funnier. I think my favorite one was seeing him holding that RPG. The payoff was well-executed too.
“Rhoads’ life” Of course, there are times when the best comedy involves making fun of yourself. Brian Rhoads went to town on this one, but once again, they have to resort to creepy humor, which unsurprisingly involved Ty Thursby.
One of my favorite moments was seeing Rhoads do the “News” again. Yay!
My final score is 8.95 out of 10.
Both troupes will be performing at U of A’s SICK 17 festival on April 17. Odds are, I will attend as well.
