It's been four months since I posted anything on this board, and now Farce Side is a different show. Brian Rhoads and Audrey Farnsworth are directing, Ty Thursby has bowed out, and almost half the cast are newbies.
I remember in 2005 that Farce Side lost 5 people at once, but after Kyle became the new director and new cast members were brought in, I rated a show 10 out of 10 for the first time. I intend to do it again before the year is over. I ask you Farce Side, are you gonna make me a liar?
Let's see if I still have it....
"Inner monologue"
Good way to get this started. Making Brian's monologue a female voice was a nice touch. Of course they had to throw in a "big tits" comment.
"Awkward team"
Funny, and then inappropriate. The "Awkward team" carries Stephanie away from awkward situations, but then they make the mistake of crashing a funeral. You see the point.
"Tea party/Not invited"
Probably the best sketch of the show. Michael did a fantastic job portraying the inept king, one that mistakenly thought that the Boston Tea Party was actually a party and he didn't get invited. Then, over 200 years later, Stephanie is the queen, and she holds a grudge over "not being invited." The crown falling off wasn't planned, but she didn't let that mess her up.
"Human furniture store"
Whoever wrote this was obviously looking for physical comedy. A human futon, massage chair, and TV stand? I feel bad for the people who got sat upon, and Mr. Margetis. Holding that TV like that and working the buttons had to suck. Nobody said comedy is easy, but I think he's got it.
"Cancer battle"
Okay, since when did the battle against cancer turn into a sort of Pokemon battle? This sketch was on par with the "Tea Party" scene. It did have elements of absurdist comedy, and the announcer added that layer it needed.
Stephanie stepped on a bottle on the stage when she was jumping around. She covered well. Nice.
This show was pretty decent, but Farce Side is going through a new phase at the moment. Let's see where this goes.
My final score is 8.75 out of 10.
