Some of you are probably wondering why I didn't post a review of last week's show. I've had time to think about it, and I believe I may have had a writer's block. I've also considered that there could be a deeper reason for not writing a review, but I'll keep that to myself for now.
This comedy show has seen a great deal of change in the past year alone, and this latest change in directors is just the tip of the iceberg. I've been coming to Farce Side for almost 8 years, so I've seen more change than anyone. I've already noticed a few subtle changes to the show, but it will take time to see how these new directors stand out.
Here we go...
"Where's Waldo"
A multi-scene sketch with a little bit of creepiness. I don't know how Ryan did it. You can guess which character he was. Nice touch.
"Disabilities store"
Yep, Stephanie walks into a store and it appears that everyone has a disability. This sketch pulled off a bait and switch. No one actually had any problems. Good concept, weak finish.
"David Bowie's pet store"
I have to look at this from a neutral perspective, since I was never into David Bowie, which, given my eclectic taste in music, is a surprise. Nicholas Shekerjian pulled a convincing British accent here. His performance was the best part of the scene.
"OCD date"
I've mentioned that I've been around for almost 8 years, and after that much time, you tend to get a feel for how these sketches turn out. Carly plays a girl who has, well you can guess. At first I'm thinking, "he's gonna get turned off." The outcome was surprising, in that he didn't.
"Connor's song"
I'm starting to see that Connor McAlpine is Farce Side's potential golden boy. The song is intended to be a Valentine's Day thing, but of course he adds the Farce Side touch.
I believe that the show, while not mind-blowing, was pretty decent.
The date auctions are next week. Bring money, and be prepared. Both casts are gonna do some crazy shit.
My final score is 8.5 out of 10.
